August Wilson New Play Initiative
Congo Square Theatre Company Submission Guidelines:
Congo Square Theatre Company is an ensemble dedicated to producing definitive and transformative theatre spawned from the African Diaspora, as well as from other world cultures. Congo Square Theatre Company seeks to establish itself as an institution of multicultural theatre. We are interested in full-length plays, translations, adaptations, musicals and performance art. We will consider productions of previously produced plays. We do not accept unsolicited scripts for consideration for our seasons. You may submit your play through a literary agent or accompanied by a letter of recommendation by a theater professional (i.e. an artistic director or literary manager at a professional theater). If neither of these apply to you, you may write a letter of inquiry to Aaron Todd Douglas, Associate Artistic Director, and submit a brief synopsis, cast list, relevant production history and 10-15 pages of sample dialogue. The company may then request a complete script. No email or fax submissions accepted. Please include a SASE if you would like your materials returned. We accept submissions year-round.

The DuSable Museum of African American History Presents
“ROCK the BOAT!”
All of Chicago is invited to “Rock the Boat!” The DuSable Museum of African American History’s 2nd annual fund-raising cruise. The event will take place aboard one of our city’s most popular attractions, the four-story festive entertainment cruise ship, Spirit of Chicago, which is located at 600 East Grand Avenue (Navy Pier) in Chicago.
This magical evening will begin promptly at 5:30pm when guests will receive their passage, meet their fellow passengers and board the ship. From 6:00pm until 8:00pm, it will be “Anchors Aweigh,” as guests participate in a moonlight cruise along the scenic shores of Lake Michigan while enjoying a “seafaring” grand buffet supper, libations, entertainment and dancing, as they experience some of the most spectacular views of Chicago imaginable. At 8:30 P.M. the ship will return to its Navy Pier berth, “drop anchor” and guests will then partake in a “dockside” Dessert Buffet until 10:00pm.
Event Chair
Deborah O. Brown, Director of Station Relations at NBC Chicago
The show will cover significant figures, events, and themes associated with African Americans in aviation and aerospace history.

Culled from hours of interviews Speaking In Tongues: The Chronicles of Babel explores the oral histories of an extended family living in Chicago’s now demolished Washington Park housing project. Three generations come together to chronicle the complex story of their lives, the life of their building, and the impact of this uniquely American social experiment. Speaking In Tongues is not a fictionalized account of the urban poor. Utilizing a documentary style of staging, this play endeavors to preserve the authentic voices of a population that is seldom allowed to speak for itself in the American conversation.
