



Membership
We are the leadership and staff of arts organizations, individual artists and arts
patrons who have joined together to support the growth of the Black arts community
in and around Chicago.
When you join us, you'll network with colleagues and peers at membership meetings,
special events and exciting arts activities while becoming more involved in the cultural
movement taking place in Chicago. You'll be among the first to know about Black
arts programming in the Chicago area. Membership in the Alliance is the perfect way
to demonstrate your support for African American art in all its forms.
Membership with the African American Arts Alliance of Chicago offers a variety of
benefits:
- Special discounted ticket prices for performances by eta Creative Arts
Foundation, Muntu Dance Theatre, Black Ensemble Theatre, and Chocolate
Chips Theatre Company
- CONVERGENCE, our quarterly newsletter and event calendar will keep you
up to date with productions sponsored by the Alliance and events in the
community as a whole
- Workshops and forums, held both as part of our quarterly General
Membership Meetings and throughout the year. Members are encouraged to
suggest topics
- Active influence and participation in Alliance productions, including Black Arts
Month, our annual Fall festival promoting our talented members
- Resources and information, such as practical insight on grant deadlines, job
availability and so much more!
Membership Tier
Organization
Member organizations promote or produce Black artistic expression in any arts
discipline, including but not limited to performance, visual art, literary art and design.
To qualify for membership, organizations must be located in Illinois or provide a
forum for Black artistic expression in the Chicago area for a significant portion of the
year. Member organizations are also required to serve on at least one Alliance
committee and afford company representation at the quarterly general membership
meetings.
Individual Artist
To qualify, persons must currently practice activity as an artist or be a student of the
arts in the Chicago area.
Patron
To qualify, persons must be an advocate for, and supporter of, Black artistic
expression in the Chicago area. Patrons are afforded the same benefits and privileges
of an Individual Artist membership excepting the right to vote.
Students/Seniors
To qualify, persons must be students and/or senior citizens, and must be an advocate
for, and supporter of, Black artistic expression in the Chicago area.
